SES Indiana's First-Ever Carport Solar Installation
Valparaiso, IN
YMCA of Valparaiso
When the YMCA of Valparaiso wanted to go solar, they had a challenge most organizations don't face: no available roof space and no land to spare. SES Indiana's solution was a milestone — a custom-designed carport structure that generates clean energy overhead while providing year-round covered parking for members below. The elevated design doesn't just produce power; it enhances the entire outdoor experience.

Steve Listenberger
Steve Listenberger is a naturalist at heart. With over five acres converted into a haven for native plants and wildlife, going solar was a natural extension of who he is. "We wanted to support all forms of the natural life. So that's why we made the choice to go with this," he said.
He got his system in 2019 hoping to reduce his electric bill. Five years later, it's down to just six dollars a month. In his spare time he gives back through beekeeping, planting native flowers, and learning everything he can about local wildlife. "We wake up to new stuff almost every day. It really is like a good book you don't want to end."

The Gackenheimers
Cindy and Jerry Gackenheimer had been thinking about solar for years before they finally met the SES Indiana team at the home show in Warsaw. "We've always thought it was an answer to some of the problems of energy in the world," Cindy said.
The 30% federal tax credit sealed the deal — and the install was done in less than a week. "They were very cooperative, worked well, got things done," Jerry said of the crew. They expect to fully pay off their system by 2029. Since going solar, both have retired and spend their time on what matters: their butterfly garden and staying active.
